Sauchiehall Avenue
Complete: September 2019
Now lined by a variety of deciduous trees for year round appeal – Sauchiehall Street, between Charing Cross and Rose Street was the first Avenue project to be completed.
The once traffic dominated environment has been transformed into an attractive, safer and inclusive space featuring a fully segregated bi-directional cycle track; continuous flush footway, permeable paving and cycle crossings at side roads. Access to buses and taxis is also much improved.
The street remains one-way eastbound but with two traffic lanes instead of four. Disabled parking, loading, taxi ranks and bus stops are distributed evenly along the kerb lines to create a single through traffic route which makes access easier and helps to enforce the new 20mph speed limit.
